IYCWM is devoted to the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar, and his children, Geeta and Prashant Iyengar of Pune, India. Mr. Iyengar believed that yoga is for everyone, regardless of strength, flexibility, age, or other perceived weaknesses. We are honored to be given the privilege of being one of three Iyengar Centers in New England. To be granted this credential, the director/owner of the center must pass a certain level of assessment standards and have supporting recommendations as well as regular travel to India.
As of August 14, 2007, the name “IYENGAR” associated with “YOGA” was registered as a trademark and is protected in the United States to ensure that yoga associated with the Iyengar name reflects the work of B.K.S. Iyengar.
The trademark is maintained by IYNAUS to protect the teachings of Mr. Iyengar and the professional integrity of CIYTs. It represents years of study, practice and strict dedication to the Iyengar method.
IYCWM is also committed to looking at and acknowledging the ways race, class, sexuality, gender identity and body positivity shape us as yoga practitioners and human beings, both individually and in our community. We continue to educate ourselves about and acknowledge structures of oppression and how they operate in Iyengar Yoga and communities in general.
