Fundamentals of Iyengar Yoga Series

A three-week introduction, recommended for complete beginners, new students or those with less than two years’ experience of Iyengar yoga.

  • Basic yoga postures (asanas) are taught to develop strength, stamina and flexibility

  • Suitable for any age group
  • Taught in-studio only

  • Fridays 5:30pm – 6:30pm with Susan-Elena Esquivel

Iyengar Level I

A continuing introduction to Iyengar Yoga that builds strength, stamina and a basic understanding of the poses.

  • Ideal for students who are new to Iyengar yoga; those coming back from lapsed practice, or an illness or injury; or any students who feel like getting back to basics.

  • Taught hybrid – you can choose to attend online or in-studio

  • Wednesdays 9:30am – 11:00am with Susan-Elena Esquivel

  • Thursdays 6:00pm – 7:30pm with Lois Joy

Iyengar Ignite! Level I/II

Physically engaging, encouraging, well-paced and progressive class ideal for students with at least a year of Iyengar instruction who want to work towards a Level II practice. Learn the depths of Iyengar yoga, how to build confidence and skills in yoga, and establish and sequence a home practice.

  • Taught online only

  • Tuesdays 6:00 – 7:30pm with Lois Joy

Iyengar Level I/II LAB

Intermediate class for those who have been practicing alignment based yoga for a minimum of one year with a solid foundation in standing poses and want to learn to practice inversions, backbends and forward bends. Students will expand their knowledge of Iyengar Yoga in a laboratory environment where we look at how the different category of poses influence one another. Bring your questions and a sense of adventure!

  • In this series, students will regularly practice headstand, handstand, shoulderstand and deeper backbends.

  • Deeper and more detailed study of the basic asanas, including the standing poses.

  • Headstand develops into head balance; shoulderstand is advanced to include variations; unsupported backbends are introduced. Alternative poses given to address specific needs

  • Taught hybrid – you can choose to attend online or in-studio

  • Tuesdays 5:45 – 7:30pm with Susan-Elena Esquivel

Iyengar Level II / III Series

Two Hour Class. A more explicit understanding of the poses is taught working on the Junior I/II syllabi, with regular inversions and backbends.
*Permission of instructor required. Students must have a regular practice of sirsasana, salamba sarvangasana and urdhva dhanurasana.

  • Asanas are held longer with greater depth and sensitivity

  • Introduction of pranayama and integration of the Yoga Sutras into the asana practice

  • Students should be in the process of developing their own home practice

  • Taught hybrid – you can choose to attend online or in-studio

  • Saturdays 8:30 – 10:30am with Susan-Elena Esquivel

All Levels Healthy Spine

This specialty back care class uses specialized sequencing and specific alignment instruction to alleviate back pain and support a healthy spine.

  • Appropriate for all levels and students with injuries or specific concerns.

  • Taught hybrid – you can choose to attend online or in-studio

  • Fridays 9:30 – 11:00am with Susan-Elena Esquivel

All Levels Back Care

Focuses on different spinal challenges as well the back care principles of lengthening and strengthening the core and spinal muscles. Great for those with spinal imbalances, lower back pain, neck and shoulder pain, sciatica, stenosis or other back care concerns. These courses are designed by and taught by Susan Elena Esquivel, whose expertise in common misalignments is widely respected in the greater Iyengar Community.

  • All levels welcome

  • Mondays 5:45 – 7:15pm with Susan-Elena Esquivel

Iyengar Ropes Series

3 week short course exploring the wonders of the ropes. Using traction we will move through the different categories of poses to access deeper openings and increase awareness.

  • All levels welcome
  • Taught in-studio only

  • Saturdays 11:00am – 12:00pm with Susan-Elena Esquivel

Asana for Pranayama Series

In this Asanas for Pranayama Series, we will learn the important principles for practice of specific asanas in preparation for pranayama.

  • General level – two years of yoga practice required

  • Taught online only
