Intro to Yoga – A three-week introduction, recommended for complete beginners. or new students or those with less than two years’ experience of Iyengar yoga. Basic yoga postures (asanas) are taught to develop strength, stamina and flexibility, and they’re suitable for any age group.
Level I – A continuing introduction to Iyengar Yoga, that builds strength, stamina and a basic understanding of the poses. Ideal for students who are new to Iyengar yoga; those coming back from lapsed practice, or an illness or injury; or any students who feel like getting back to basics.
Level I / II – For those needing an in-between class. A more detailed study of the basic asanas, including the standing poses. Headstand develops into head balance at the wall; shoulderstand is advanced to include variations; supported backbends are introduced. Students will expand their knowledge of Iyengar Yoga.
Level II – Deeper and more detailed study of the basic asanas, including the standing poses. Headstand develops into head balance away from the wall; shoulderstand is advanced to include variations; unsupported backbends are introduced. Students will expand their knowledge of Iyengar Yoga.
Transitioning from Level I to Level II LAB – Two Hour Class. Intermediate class for those who have been practicing alignment based yoga for a minimum of one year with a solid foundation in standing poses and want to learn to practice inversions, backbends and forward bends. In this series, students will regularly practice headstand, handstand, shoulderstand and deeper backbends. Deeper and more detailed study of the basic asanas, including the standing poses. Headstand develops into head balance; shoulderstand is advanced to include variations; unsupported backbends are introduced. Students will expand their knowledge of Iyengar Yoga in a laboratory environment where we look at how the different category of poses influence one another. Bring your questions, notebooks and a sense of adventure!
Level II / III – Two Hour Class. A more explicit understanding of the poses is taught working on the Junior I/II syllabi, with regular inversions and backbends. Asanas are held longer with greater depth and sensitivity. Students should be beginning to develop their own home practice. This class, will also introduce pranayama and draw the sutras into the asana practice. *Permission of instructor required. Students must have a regular practice of sirsasana, salamba sarvangasana and urdhva dhanurasana.
Healthy Spine – This specialty back care class uses specialized sequencing and specific alignment instruction to alleviate back pain and support a healthy spine. Appropriate for all levels and students with injuries or specific concerns.
Back Care Series – 3 week short courses focusing on different spinal challenges as well the back care principles of lengthening and strengthening the core and spinal muscles. Great for those with spinal imbalances, lower back pain, neck and shoulder pain, sciatica, stenosis or other back care concerns. These courses are designed by and taught by Susan Elena Esquivel, whose expertise in common misalignments is widely respected in the greater Iyengar Community. All levels welcome.
Ropes Series – 3 week short course exploring the wonders of the ropes. Using traction we will move through the different categories of poses to access deeper openings and increase awareness. All levels welcome.
Candlelight Rejuvenation – This monthly class celebrates the art of deep relaxation. Preparing the body with specific asanas to open up to the breath and move into a meditative state. Basic pranayama is introduced. All levels welcome to this Community class at the special price of $10.
