Yoga Vrksa Iyengar Yoga Immersion Program

with Susan Elena Esquivel

The Yoga Vrksa Iyengar Immersion Program is inspired by Geeta Iyengar, my studies in India and with some of the most Senior Iyengar teachers in the world. The Iyengar method is a deep and rich practice that is ripe with creativity. Yoga is an art, a science and a philosophy. Through creative exploration, consistent practice and a supportive community of like minded yogis, we broaden our horizons and move towards a true state of Yoga. This program is geared towards students who want to deepen their practice or begin the journey towards mentorship and becoming a teacher-in training.

Join this Iyengar Yoga Immersion Program throughout 2024 to deepen your personal practice and explore the vastness of Iyengar yoga.

Yoga teaches us how to infuse our movement with intelligence, transforming it into action. BKS Iyengar, through his years of devoted practice, discovered that the purpose or goal of asana is to align and harmonize the physical body and all the layers, or sheaths, of the subtle emotional, mental, and spiritual body; this is integration. But how does one align these layers and experience integration? It begins with awareness. Guruji understood how asana and pranayama can be the means to reach the Self. Through the art of integration, the path of yoga can lead us to ultimate freedom. Join us as we pierce through the layers and deepen our practice of asana in preparation for pranayama.

  • Includes asana, philosophy, anatomy and pranayama.

  •  Over each session, we will break down poses and learn how to accommodate our bodies’ individual needs.

Program Structure

Meets weekdays 7:15 – 8:15am online only and monthly Saturdays 8:00 – 10:30am. Saturday sessions will be hybrid, giving students the choice to work in studio or online at home.

Philosophy Discussion

This program has been invaluable. I have learned more during my time here than I have in 20 years of practice. I have been able to take my deeper understanding of my body and the poses to my regular classes with greater confidence to get so much more out of my practice.

Sadye V., Massachusetts

Yoga Vrksha program integrates yoga philosophy with yoga practice. Susan Elena is an experienced Iyengar yoga teacher. She instructs the nuances of Iyengar yoga specific to our needs on that day with clarity and also helps us to safely embody the asana and thereby create harmony. Her enthusiasm and love for yoga rubs off on the students and one comes out of the class feeling joyous and refreshed. There is always something new I discover in every class about my body, mind, energy. It is a great privilege to learn from an experienced, wise and kind teacher like Susan Elena. And I would recommend everyone to take up this opportunity.

Manasa B., Texas

It has been one of the most turbulent year of my 60 on the planet. The privilege and joy of Susan Elena’s teaching has provided a rudder for which I am grateful. Because we are able to meet so regularly, Yoga has become an important part of every day. Her depth of knowledge, attentiveness and precision provide appropriate challenge and options for all levels of yogis. The readings and discussions seep deeply and daily into my life off the mat. On a practical note, making physical space in my home for yoga has prompted a deeper and tangible commitment to my own practice. Thank you for your boundless energy and excellent teaching.

Maribeth E., Massachusetts

Yoga Vrksa gives then gives again. The greater time and practice I devote to it, the more I gain, on multiple levels. Susan Elena puts heart and soul into preparation, discussion, sutra study and asana practice.

Cindy P., Massachusetts

It has been a very steady and welcome routine. Susan Elena’s format has strengthened my yoga practice and deepened my understanding of what it means to practice yoga.

Deborah K., Massachusetts

It has been a great, life affirming journey.

Jane P., Connecticut

Since this program began, I have found benefit from it in multiple ways. My asana practice and body awareness have improved, as has my outlook on life. The timing really helped me cope with a dramatic life change at the beginning of the pandemic, and the impact of these sessions will likely affect the rest of my journey going forward.

Greg H., Massachusetts

The sutra studies and the readings, especially from other commentaries have been very helpful. The chanting helps me in quieting my mind & sets the stage for the class.I find myself more focused & pay more attention to the details of the instructions. It’s still a work in progress, but I can see a difference.

Negest R., Connecticut

The holistic approach of Yoga Vrksa allows a much broader and deeper understanding of the practice resulting in a gratifying sense of growth and being.

Linda S., Massachusetts

Yoga Vrksa became an organizing principle in my life during the early part of the pandemic, and it continues to organize and ground me today.  I know that Monday through Thursday my day will start with Susan Elena’s smile and greeting, along with the smiling faces of my classmates.  Oh yes, and there’s yoga too.  We start with philosophy, which is sometimes hard to absorb so early in the morning – but it seems to seep in nonetheless.  And the asana practice is wonderful.  Since we work on one pose at a time, we have the opportunity to take the pose apart, work on different pieces of it one by one, and then experience “the pose” in a new way, with a fresh understanding or feeling something different from before.  I am better able to observe, search, and explore without worrying so much about what the pose looks like on the outside or whether I get all the way to the full expression of it.  I am sure that my life is fuller and more grounded because of Yoga Vrksa – though it is hard to say exactly how.

Betsy H., Massachusetts

Yoga Vrksa changed my life in the best way possible.  I joined at the beginning of Covid and have practiced 6 days a week since, upping my commitment to health and awareness of my body, mind and spirit.  I cannot imagine what condition I would be in without it!!  Great way to start the day!!

Jackie H., Massachusetts

This class has been a very valuable experience for me and I plan to continue regularly. The mix of yoga philosophy and careful stepwise introduction to yoga asanas is so valuable.
